Pastor Immanuel Frost, the current minister of Hølling Church who lives as a widower in the large rectory where Erik moves into the opposite wing. 61 years old.
Irene Larsen, a widow who - after her husband's death - couldn't afford staying at their farm and was moved to the minister's abode as a courtesy; she cooks and cleans instead of paying rent. 40 years old.
Herluf Larsen, Irene's 12-year-old son who will take over her care when he turns 14, is currently taking lessons in Latin from Immanuel while assisting in the work associated with the rectory.

Sara Holm, a young farmer's daughter who sets her eyes on getting married to Erik; later - after she realizes the state of things - becomes his friend and support. 22 years old.





OTHER PEOPLE OF RELEVANCE

Rasmus Svensson, fellow theology student from Copenhagen whom Erik was very close with; they had a romantic relationship that had to end when Erik left for Jutland, but still correspond.
Pastor Gustav Schmidt, the minister at Erik's church in Copenhagen, Trinitatis Church, where he has his spiritual family and finds religious support and comfort. Gustav functions as a mentor and inspiration to him.
